CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan, Feb. 8 — Aimed to raise environmental awareness through various arts, the Provincial Youth, Sports and Employment, Arts, Culture Office (PYSEACO) has launched an art for a cause campaign here.

This is in line with the celebration of Arts Month for the whole month of February.

The campaign, dubbed Bayan, Kalikasan at Sining (BAKAS), which banks on the theme “Mag-iwan ng bakas para sa isang magandang bukas,” will encourage Bulakenyo artists to work hand-in-hand with the local government in protecting and preserving environment, said Governor Jonjon Mendoza.

In line with the project, the provincial government will convene 200 local Bulakenyo artists from different art disciplines for an orientation in response to the environment challenges presently besetting the province.

Mendoza said that with the campaign, organizers seek to change the perspective from “arts for arts sake” to “arts for a cause” to push for the utilization of artistry for environmental advocacies and the artists’ actual involvement in environmental activities within their community.

In its launching held recently at the Capitol Gymnasium here, students from Guiguinto National High School, Tuktukan Elementary School, Koro Bulakenyo, Koro Carmelo, Sining Bulakenyo and Ferdinand “Makata-Tawanan” Clemente, 7th Hall of Famer of TV 5’s Talentadong Pinoy, entertained the crowd.

Elizabeth Alonzo, head of PYSEACO said that for the whole month, the provincial government would pursue some activities including Bantay Kalikasan Forum, Alagad ng Sining Critiquing, Kalinga sa Kalikasan Community Immersion, Alay sa Kalikasan Concert, and Sining para sa Kalikasan in Action in all the districts of the province.

The campaign will culminate with a tree planting activity and a concert. (PNA) RMA/zst/EGG/ps
