MANILA, Feb. 7 –- The city government of Marikina on Sunday urged the business owners in the city to attend an environmental seminar as a prerequisite to the issuance or renewal of business permit and licenses.
City Environmental Management Office (CEMO) specialist Oliver Villamena said the undertaking was pursuant to Ordinance No. 111, Series of 2001 which promotes the protection, preservation, and enhancement of public health, safety, and the environment.
“All the members of society, including the business sector, must commit themselves to achieving environmental sustainability excellence. Sharing with them pertinent tools and information is pivotal to realizing that goal,” Villamena said.
Conducted by CEMO, the seminar covers three key aspects of environmental management: solid waste management (recycling, segregation of waste, proper waste disposal), Clean Water Act (septage and sewage management), and Clean Air Act (no burning of garbage, dust-free Marikina, air quality monitoring, bikeways program, anti-smoke belching).
