UE joins National Arts Month celebration

MANILA, Feb. 8 — The University of the East is celebrating the 2010 February National Arts Month (NAM) with art and culture pageantry with the theme "Ani ng Sining sa UE."

The UE arts month pageantry kicked off with an opening of an art exhibit last on February 1 at the Dalupan Lobby inside the UE-Manila campus on C. M. Recto Avenue, Sampaloc, Manila.

The art exhibit is UE’s centerpiece event dubbed as "Artistry for the Greater Glory," a wide-range collection of masterpieces painted by alumni, faculty members, selected students and UE-Alumni Achievers of the UE College of Fine Arts (CFA).

The exhibit aims to raise funds to build a new Chapel at the UE Caloocan Campus on Samson Road, Caloocan City.

Masterpieces to be displayed for benefit sale were contributed, among others, by leading visual artists/ UE Alumni Ed Arcilla, Rod Banzon, Ernesto "Aris" Bagtas Jr., Maximo "Maxbal" Balatbat (2nd placer at the recent 7th Florence Beinnale, Italy), and Nathaniel dela Cruz.

Other highlights of the UE arts month pageantry are: dance performances by the UE Silanganan Dance Troupe on February 10, 3 p.m., UE Theatre and on February 12, 2 p.m., UE Caloocan campus; concerts by internationally acclaimed UE Chorale on February 15, UE Caloocan and on February 17, 3 p.m., UE Theater; and a drama presentation entitled "Ms. Philippines" by the UE Drama Company, on February 26, 3 p.m., UE Theater.

The rest of activities for the UE arts month celebration include: UE CFA faculty and students art exhibit at UE Caloocan campus; "Mr. & Ms BA," a UE College of Business Administration – Manila benefit show for the UE adopted Barangays 401 and 402 in Manila; PETA presentation, DLSU Theater Guild Tanghal Festival, Tanghalan Ateneo all at the UE Theater; On-the-Spot Painting Contest at Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila.
