Provincial dad wants reforestation project expanded to other Iloilo towns

ILOILO CITY, Feb. 24 – Board Member Jett Rojas is looking forward to replicate the reforestation efforts of the municipality of Ajuy in other towns of Iloilo province.

The municipality embarked on the project with the support of the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) based in Japan.

They goal is to reforest some 330 hectares of land in Ajuy in the next three years. This year, the target is to cover some 165 hectares and another 110 hectares in 2011.

“We look forward to expand the project not only in the town of Ajuy but also in the entire province,” he said.

Rojas visited Japan several times to seek additional fund for the expansion of the project.

The board member cited that the project would make a great contribution as far as cushioning the impact of global warming is concerned, likewise extend livelihood support to the people in the community.

He also cited among others its role in enhancing biodiversity and responding to other environmental problems. (PNA) LAP/PGLena/vlo
