MANILA, Feb. 25 — With the inclusion of Filipino award-winning director Brillante Mendozas film Lola at the 24th Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) in Switzerland, a dinner will be hosted in his honor by the Philippine Embassy in Berne on March 14, attended by Swiss film industry giants.
Lola will premier at the festival on March 13.
The FIFF is scheduled in the city of Fribourg from March 13 to 20, with pre-screened quality films from Asia, Africa and Latin America competing.
The embassy noted that the films selected by the FIFF engage audiences with images, stories and ideas that may not be conformist for a Swiss public.
Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland Maria Theresa P. Lazaro remarked that the entry of Lola at the FIFF recognizes the Filipinos world-class artistry in film-making.
Mendoza was chosen Best Director in the 2009 Cannes International Film Festival in France and served as a member of the jury for the Filmmakers of the Film Competition for the 62nd Film Festival Locarno (Switzerland) in 2009.
He first won an international award in Locarno with his film Masahista which won the Golden Leopard in the Video Competition in 2005. (PNA)
