Ilonggo top 8 in PMA Class 2010

ILOILO CITY, Feb. 27 –The Agarao couple in Carles, Iloilo has all the reasons to be happy this days after their eldest son landed in the top eight berth in the 10 top notchers of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Masidlak Class 2010 graduates this year.

After long years of hard study and dedication, the Ilonggo top notcher, Alfie Pancho Agarao, who hailed from Brgy. Cabilao Pequenio, Carles, Iloilo is up for graduation together with fellow top ten PMA cadets and successful graduates of the prestigious military academy in the country come March 1, 2010.

Before his admission to the military academy in Baguio City, the Ilonggo student from the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic College (NIPC) took the PMA entrance examination thrice but was denied entry to the military academy not because he was not able to hurdle each of three exams but due to the lack of financial support on the part of his family.

Agarao said he was then a 1st year college at the NIPC taking Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics when he first tried his luck and passed the examination. But lack the financial cash for his medical examination stalled the plan.

He again decided to take the PMA entrance exam when he was second year college and passed the exam but his plan was hindered for similar financial difficulties to complete his requirements.

With his strong determination, he took again the entrance exam for the third time during his junior years in college and passed the examination.

And finally, he was fortunate to have the medical examination for his entry to the prestigious military academy in Baguio City.

Alfie was the eldest of the 11 siblings of the Agarao couple in the northernmost town of Carles, Iloilo.

His father was a tenant farmer renting a one-hectare land planted to agricultural crops as source of family income to sustain their family’s needs. His mother, on the other hand, is just an ordinary housewife.

After his graduation from the PMA on March 1, 2010, Alfie chose to serve in the Philippine Navy where a rank of an ensign awaits him. (PNA) RMA/VLOrquiola/vlo
