Fr. Robert Reyes, DENR lead holy week run for water and renewal

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya(March 29) – Fr. Robert Reyes, the running priest along with officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) will lead the holy week run for water and renewal from March 29 to April 4 in three regions in Northern Luzon .

The advocacy run for Water Conservation dubbed “Tubig, Bendisyon, Obligasyon” is also conducted in support of the Earth Day celebration, said Robert Apigo, provincial environment and natural resources officer here.

The seven-day holy week run starts from the DENR central office in Visayas Avenue and will pass through the National Capital Region (NCR), Region 3 (Bulacan and Nueva Ecija) and Region 2 – from Nueva Vizcaya to Ilagan, Isabela.

The holy week run will cover 70 kilometers a day to complete the 400 kilometer advocacy run.

The advocacy run will pass by San Jose City, Digdig in Carranglan town, Nueva Ecija, Dalton Pass Sta. Fe town and in other towns of Nueva Vizcaya such as Aritao, Bambang, Bayombong, Bagabag, Diadi and other towns of Isabela such as Cordon, Santiago City, Echague, Alicia, Cauayan and Ilagan.

Fr. Reyes said the advocacy run seeks to heighten awareness and responsibility among Filipinos to change negative attitude which contributed to the alarming state of our environment, particularly the diminishing water supply in other parts of the country.

These attitudes and factors, he said are over-consumption, waste, laziness to recycle, pollution, scandalous misappropriation to favor the rich and luxurious lifestyles to the disadvantage of the poor, destruction of watersheds and other sources of water through extractive activities like mining and quarrying and illegal and legal logging, absence of programs that preserve, repair and renew watersheds, protect forests and mountains, rivers, lakes and streams and the absence of proper and effective garbage management from collection to recycling to disposal.

It is also a call to deep personal, collective, societal and global change towards voluntary simplicity and poverty in life that heals, renews and liberates, Reyes stressed. (PNA) LOR/MBA/BME/mba
