BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, April 29 – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Wednesday launched the Green Multipliers Program (GMP) 251 to mobilize more sectors in protecting and managing the environment.
Vicky Baliuag of the DENR Regional Special Concerns Office (RSCO) said the GMP 251 will be carried out this year in response to global and pressing issues on climate change.
She said the program involves the transformation of every men and women of DENR to become practicing environmentalists.
At this stage, we have to do more aggressively for the environment. We have to walk our talk to encourage others to become environmentalist too, Baliuag said.
The GMP 251 was launched Wednesday with the conduct of Search for Mr. Earth 2010 at the municipal gymnasium here.
According to Baliuag, the program seeks to convert 1,378 DENR personnel and their families to become green multipliers or environmentalists, encourage the planting of more trees in their respective communities and encourage them to recruit other to become one too.
It will also carry out the planting of some targeted 137,800 forest and fruit trees in backyards and other areas in the community.
Specifically, the program encourages employees in cleaning their offices, segregate wastes and potting of at least 25 soil media during Fridays among others. Families of DENR personnel are also encouraged to adopt proper waste management schemes in their houses, plant at least five seedlings in their backyards, along the road and other places.
The community is also encouraged to convince others to join the bandwagon of green multipliers to increase its contribution to the environment.
In carrying out the program, awards, incentives, recognitions and other privileges will also be given to the advocates of the GMP 251. (PNA)
