BAGUIO CITY, April 29 -A three-hour heavy downpour here which started at around 11:50 a.m. today caused brief flooding of roads with unfinished restoration of diggings and clogged waterways to the great inconvenience of motorists.
Residents of barangays Fairview, Irisan and Sunnyside —all high-lying areas also experienced a two-minute drop of ice particles.
Wilson Locando of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the regular afternoon rains were just the effects of thunderstorms and not in any way related to the low pressure area (LPA) some 200 kilometers west northwest of Palawan.
He said the summer has not ended and that the strong rains here were not prelude to rainy season.
The weather abnormalities experienced these days, he said, could be attributed to the prolonged drought or "El Nino" phenomenon and effects of the global warming.
The flooding of some important roads here due to clogged drainage systems and unattended diggings became the center of attention of local politicians who are making their rounds in their May 10 polls campaign. (PNA)
