DTI, CHED, IPAd join hands in promoting IP education in Caraga region

BUTUAN CITY, May 28 — In support to the National Innovation System (NIS), Caraga region will promote Intellectual Property (IP) education among college students in 14 colleges and universities at various cities and provinces in Northeastern Mindanao.

The NIS is a collaborative effort of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Caraga Intellectual Property Advocates (IPAd).

Brielgo O. Pagaran, regional director of the DTI in Northeastern Mindanao on Friday said the IP education aims to promote awareness on the importance of protecting and promoting intellectual property and technology transfer by universities and public research institutions, through the strategic use of the Patent System (PS).

Pagaran said part of the DTI program was to promote industry-academe linkages and technology transfer and commercialization.

On the other hand, Engr. Ramil A. Sanchez, SVEPS, CHED Caraga said the template for the IP Policy is that all colleges/universities in Caraga Region must institutionalize in order to protect IP and promote creativity and innovation among the members of the academe.

The collative effort of the DTI, CHED and IPAd is in support to the efforts made by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IP Phils).

As part of the action plan, faculty members from various colleges and universities in the region will be conducting continuing seminar and special trainings like patent writing.
