BUTUAN CITY, May 29 In an effort to help poor families, particularly the students in far-flung villages in the southern tip city of Bislig in Northeastern Mindanao, the city government and the Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to help one another in promoting the Scholar sa Barangay, or SB.
The MOA was signed by acting Bislig City mayor Conrad Cejoco and Tesda provincial director Rey Cuevas before ranking officials of Bislig City and TESDA on Thursday.
The MOA signing also coincided with the inspection of the on-going construction of the TESDA Bislig Manpower Training Center at Sitio Macaragogo, Barangay Poblacion, Bislig City.
The center sits on 5,000-square meter land donated by the city government.
Cejoco allocated P500,000 to the project, intended exclusively to Bisliganons while Bislig City Rep. Florencion Garay put in P10 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
Under the agreement, the city government is committed to finance the trainees for SB under TESDA program.
Garay also committed to help the scholar trainees of TESDA.
Garay cited the importance of the PGMA Scholarship Program, especially that Caraga Region is one of those regions that are greatly affected by the global financial crisis.
"PGMA TESDA Scholarship program is a great help to out-of-school youths and displaced workers in Bislig City to find a job, said Garay. Cejoco also committed to continue to support the TESDA Scholarship Program and for the progress of the Training Center when it is fully operational soon. (PNA) RMA/MUC/jsd
