TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte A total of 500 donors coming from the cities and municipalities of the province have pledged to donate blood on June 29 at the grounds of the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan here.
Dr. Agapito B. Hornido of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said the blood-letting activity would highlight the "43rd Araw ng Davao del Norte" celebration on July 1.
Hornido said Project DOLFO (Donors of Life for Others), which is a blood-letting campaign of the provincial government of Davao del Norte, could beat the record of Camarines Sur which came out two years ago with 300 blood donors in one day.
He said aside from the donors from towns and cities, the Philippine Army committed to send 50 members of its troops for the blood-letting activity.
Bearing the theme "Oneness and Unity of Purpose", Project DOLFO shows the "oneness of the mayors and barangay captains of the province," Hornido said.
"We will show to others that in Davao del Norte, we can make a difference. Giving blood is the best expression of giving love; it's actually giving yourself," he said.
With Project DOLFO, Hornido expected Davao del Norte, together with its towns and cities, to once again make it to this year's Sandugo Awards, which is known to be one of the prestigious awards for the local government units.
Hornido said Governor Rodolfo P. Del Rosario is now a Sandugo Award Hall of Famer for grabbing the award for five times.
Other Sandugo Awardees Hall of Famers are city mayors Rey T. Uy of Tagum and Jose Silvosa of Panabo; and municiapal mayors Joseph Nilo Parenas of Asuncion, Mayor Edgardo Timbol of Kapalong, Lolita Moral of Braulio E. Dujali. (PNA) RMA/Frinston L. Lim/lvp
