DENR teams up with business sector in Marilao river clean up

MANILA, Aug. 28 -The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will formally launch on Tuesday, Aug. 31, its Green Line Hotline and Text Facility Project in Malolos, Bulacan.

“The Green Line Project is definitely a new approach that we have taken with our partners institutions to elicit direct public involvement in protecting the Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System using the power of mobile phones and the internet,” DENR Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje said.

The government is already making full use of the digital communication technology in cleaning up and rehabilitating the Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System (MMORS), he said.

Launch ceremonies will be attended by officials of DENR, the provincial government of Bulacan, Globe Telecommunications, Sony Ericsson and Blacksmith Institute.

Paje said that, under the project, the public can immediately report polluters and other environmental violations happening along the management area of river system either through texting or email. (PNA) RMA/JCA
