MANILA, Aug. 29 – The AFP Reserve Command (AFPRESCOM) conducted a static display of its Disaster Relief Operations (DRO) equipment and personnel, followed by an assembly test of its DRO skills in a rescue drill on Saturday, the military reported Sunday.
The AFP LAANG KAWAL National Capital Region Disaster Responders Assembly Test and Inventory was conducted as a prelude to the celebration of the National Reservist Week, being held nationwide every first week of September, said AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos.
"Platoons of reservists, both officers and enlisted men, have participated in the event," said Burgos.
This years observance of the 31st National Reservist Week will involve activities to be conducted in 10 different locations around the country (one in NCR and nine regional locations), in order to achieve the pronouncement from the Department of National Defense to have at least a one-million strong reservist force.
The National Reservist Week Convention will include, among others, lectures on Disaster Risk Management, specifically disasters/calamities and climate change mitigation, in order to enhance the operational readiness of the Reserve Force.
"The AFP Reserve force has played significant role in supporting the AFPs operations, especially during times of national disasters/calamities and other-nation building activities. We enjoin able-bodied Filipinos to join our Reserve Force and use it as an opportunity to contribute to national development," said Burgos. (PNA) RMA/VR
