BAGUIO CITY, Sept. 1 — City Mayor Mauricio Domogan extolled on Wednesday the great vision and accomplishments of many American statesmen who built Baguio 101 years ago and left "a beautiful legacy to the world."
This 49-square kilometer city from then on has served as the "Summer Capital of the Philippines."
Mayor Domogan made the exhortation in his speech during the celebration of Baguio City's 101st Charter Day at the city plaza here named after American Justice George Malcolm. Domogan said that the great American judge took a big role in the passage of Act No. 1963 by the Philippine Commission on September 1, 1901 which declared Baguio as a chartered city.
The city mayor said that much had been done by the American leaders for the city that "we pay homage to their greatness and vision."
He said that the city officialdom is now in search of the original copy of Act 1963 in order that it will serve as "one of the treasurers this city has as it marks each year this day that it was born." (PNA)
