MANILA, Sept. 2 -– Health Secretary Enrique Ona on Thursday appealed to the public not to compare him with his predecessor, Dr. Francisco Duque, who is already Civil Service Commission (CSC) chairman.

Ona told reporters he has been on the job for only two months, compared to Duque who has been there for a very long time.

Ona hails from Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. He is the son of the first Provincial Health Officer of Zamboanga del Sur and a periculture nurse.

Before being appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as Health secretary, Ona was the executive director of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, the post he held for 11 years and has been the president of the Transplantation Society of the Philippines since 1989. He also holds a medical license in the State of Massachusetts, U.S.A. (PNA)
