MANILA, Sept. 6 – Rizal Governor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III said on Monday he is open to the planned P 18.7- billion dredging project for Laguna de Bay if the informal settlers have been relocated first to prevent a redundancy of the project in the future.

The dredging will be undertaken by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).

Ynares said that the cleaning up of Laguna de Bay “is important and will benefit the local governments in the lakeshore areas.”

However, if the informal settlers are not relocated, they could again cause massive problems in the lake with their garbage as well as blocking of water passageways, Ynares said.

“I am willing to support the dredging project but there are steps that must be taken first before that massive dredging is done,” Ynares said. (PNA) /JCA
