City mayor urges Ilonggos to strive harder during Rizal Day observance

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 29 – Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here urges Ilonggos to strive harder for their future during the commemoration of the 114th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal here on Thursday.

Mabilog said that “it requires a noble task and great responsibility from each one” to be able to achieve this goal. He also said that Rizal “did not die for nothing, but he died in the name of freedom and love of country and for us Filipinos.”

He also challenged the Ilonggos to put their acts together in the pursuit of peace and progress as well as the need to preserve Filipino culture and ethics. He cited the need to promote Rizal’s values on the youth for them to ‘be prepared for a brighter future.’

The city mayor also reminded Ilonggos that "we still have so much to do, particularly on implementing positive reforms in governance and values."

“I am confident that for as long as we live according to Rizal’s ideals, then we will never ever be suppressed again,” he said.

Mabilog, along with the city officials, led the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies. They were joined by officials of Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC), veterans, government officials and representatives of the various government agencies during the rites.
