ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 26 — The municipal government of Tabuan Lasa, one of the newly-created towns in Basilan province, has lined up several activities as it commemorates its third anniversary on Tuesday, March 29.
Tabuan Lasa Mayor Muctar Junaid said the different activities, which include sports competition like swimming, volleyball and boat race, reel off Sunday.
Junaid said they will inaugurate two motorboats, worth P400,000 each, locally known as jungkung which will be used by the municipal health and municipal division of schools offices.
Junaid said the acquisition of the two motorboats will ensure the delivery of basic services to the town constituents by the two offices.
Junaid said the use of motorboats is essential since the municipality of Tabuan Lasa comprises 12 barangays located in four separate islands, namely Tapiantana, Bubuan, Lanawan and Saluping.
Tabuan Lasa was created out of the 12 barangays of Sumisip municipality that were not on Basilan mainland by virtue of Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 187, which was ratified in a plebiscite on March 29, 2008.
Tabuan Lasa has a population of 25,959 based on the population census of 2007. (PNA)
