(Metro News) Tzu Chi Foundation dental mission benefits poor Marikina folks

MANILA, March 26 – At least 176 marginalized individuals were served during the Tzu Chi Foundation’s 101st mobile dental mission at the Marikina Islamic Mosque in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City last Thursday.

Among the beneficiaries were members of the local Muslim community. Tzu Chi Foundation dentists and their dental aides treated everyone equally regardless of religious affiliation.

Registration for Tzu Chi Foundation’s 101st mobile dental mission started at 8:40 a.m., with volunteers segregating those requiring tooth extractions, cleaning, and restoring into small manageable groups.

Volunteer dentists performed 90 tooth extractions, 35 oral prophylaxis, 29 restorations while nine patients were checked and fitted out for dentures.

Eleven dentists and 12 dental aides took part in the almost seven-hour dental mission. Assisting them were 46 volunteers and staff of the Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines.

Four of the 11 dentists and six of the assisting dental technicians are from the Tzu Chi Foundation main office in Taiwan. (PNA) scs/PFN
