VILLAVERDE, Nueva Vizcaya, March 30 – The local government unit here on Monday launched its tree planting program in response to the worldwide call to mitigate global warming and climate change.
Dubbed 555,555 Trees For Villaverde, the program aims to plant one million trees until the year 2013, said mayor Ronelie Valtoribio.
With this program, we hope to increase the number of trees in our municipality as our contribution to the worldwide effort of regreening mother earth, she said.
Valtoribio said the program is also a prelude to the on-going preparations for the upcoming 55th founding anniversary of their municipality.
She said she intends to involve all sectors of the society in the ambitious program which can also provide livelihood to their constituents especially for the poor families.
She added that the tree planting program will be undertaken in all barangays of the municipality through community support and participation to attain a well-balanced ecology and watershed resources of the local government unit. (PNA) LAP/FFC/SCD/BME/mba
