Radiation level normal, Phl waters safe –PNRI

MANILA, March 30 – Radiation level in the country remains normal and all the bodies of water around the Philippines are safe from radioactivity coming from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant accident in Japan, the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) said Wednesday.

PNRI Deputy Director Corazon Bernido said in a press briefing at the PNRI main office in Diiliman, Quezon City they are closely monitoring the situation at the embattled nuclear plant.

Bernido said that as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, the radiation level showed 115 nanosieverts per hour, meaning it’s normal. She went on to say that the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-PNRI does not expect that harmful levels of radioactivity will reach Philippine waters.

“I would like to assure everyone it's still safe to go swimming, especially this coming summer when kids are on vacation,” Bernido said. (PNA)
