March 30, 1900

MANILA, March 30 — On March 30, 1900, capital punishment was exercised for the first time during American occupation.

Also on this same day in 1591, an ordinance was issued in the city of Manila, forbidding the wearing of silk and other fabrics from China, for the reason that it is detrimental to the general welfare and the good government of the city. (PNA)
