Negros Oriental summit set for International Day of Action for Women’s Health

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 25 – The provincial government of Negros Oriental, through its Provincial Commission on Women, will be holding a Women’s Summit on Friday in observance of this year’s International Day of Action for Women’s Health.

Around 250 women participants from all sectors, to include government agencies, non-government organizations, civic and advocacy groups, the Women’s and Children’s Concerns Desk (WCCD) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), persons-with-disabilities, senior citizens, and the media are expected to attend the one-day summit at the Macias Sports Center.

The gathering aims to focus on enhancing women’s health, with this year’s celebration theme: “Advancing Women’s Health For a Productive Citizenry”, said Provincial Administrator Josie Columna.

The activity will reel off Friday morning with a welcome message from Governor Roel Degamo, who chairs the Provincial Commission on Women, to be followed by discussions on issues and other concerns that have to be addressed as well as a workshop to identify venues and activities that will contribute to the welfare and development of the women of Negros Oriental, Columna added.

The summit’s main speaker will be Dr. Liland Estacion, a member of the Provincial Board and chairman of the Board’s Committee on Health, Population and Social Services. Estacion has worked as a municipal health officer for several years prior to her stint as a politician, serving in the Provincial Board and representing the 1st congressional district of Negros Oriental.

During the workshop, participants will also deliberate on health-related projects in the province that need attention or improvement, said Columna. (PNA) DCT/LAM/JFP
