ILOILO CITY, May 27 - This citys Bulawanon nga Nanay will be known Saturday during the awarding ceremony organized by the city government through the Iloilo City Task Force on Street Children (ICTFSC) at the SM City here.
The Bulawanon nga Nanay, now on its third year, is a search for this citys outstanding mothers coming from the less privileged sector of the community.
It is one of the priority projects of the ICTFSC to find mothers who were able to overcome the challenges of poverty through hard work and determination to help their family achieve better economic condition.
Bulawanon with a root word bulawan, means gold. Just like the precious gem, the bulawanon nga nanay is valuable, very rare, and priceless.
The competition is scheduled every May to highlight the celebration of Mothers Day.
Fourteen finalists coming from different city districts will undergo the final interview with a panel of judges until the top three winners will be chosen.
They will be judged according to their home management and parenting skills, including their involvement in community activities.
The 14 finalists are Mrs. Ma. Liza Pumaren of Tanza Baybay, City Proper; Ma. Teresa Cabuday of Zamora Melliza, City Proper; Milagros Panila of Buntatala, Jaro; Ofelia Amante of Quintin Salas, Jaro; Lilia Sagala of Cuba, Jaro; Roberta Juliaga of Dungon B, Jaro; Efrena Nacional of Calajunan, Mandurriao; Clara Obaredes of Navais, Mandurriao; Virginia Biona and Lydia Javier of Sooc, Arevalo; Myrna Patubo of San Jose, Arevalo; Gemma Lajo of Boulevard, Molo; and Milende Nolasco and Josephine Mendoza of North Baluarte, Molo.
Seventy percent of the finalists score will come from the house-to-house validation while the remaining 30 percent will be during the awarding based on their interview with the judges.
A cash prize of P10,000 will be awarded for the first place winner, P7,500 for the second place, and P5,000 for the third place. Gift packs and certificates will also be given to all finalists. (PNA) scs/LAM/LMSinay/vlo
