(Metro News) Nicanor Garcia St. in Makati closed on Saturday for street art festival

MANILA, May 27 — As part of the 341st Makati Foundation Day celebration, the city government has announced that both lanes of Nicanor Garcia Street (formerly Reposo Street) will be closed to traffic from the corner of Jupiter Street to Kalayaan Avenue on Saturday for Grupo Reposo’s Street Art Festival.

According to Public Safety chief Hermenegildo San Miguel the closure of the street will start at 10am and ends at 9pm along Nicanor Garcia Street but the Jupiter Street and Kalayaan Avenue will remain open to motorists.

San Miguel said motorists should expect heavy traffic and take alternate routes, avoiding the activity area.

The street art festival dubbed “Tuklas Sining sa Reposo” is a day-long festival featuring world-class art masterpieces, affordable gourmet, and one of a kind shows.

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay is expected to join other guests at the festival, including Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay, former Mayor Dr. Elenita S. Binay, Brgy. Bel-Air Chair Constancia Lichauco, and House Representatives Abigail Binay, 2nd District, and Monique Lagdameo, 1stDistrict.

Presented by Grupo Reposo, a non-profit organization composed of artists and gallery/store owners at LRI and other establishments located along Nicanor Garcia Street, the festival will start with seasoned and upcoming visual artists painting murals on big canvasses and actual portraiture sketches. A street Bazaar featuring antiques, rare collectibles, home accessories, crafts and books, artworks, and affordable gourmet food by well-known chefs will also be set up.

Moreover, the group also prepared a series of art lectures and painting lessons for the children of Bahay Maria orphanage, Virlanie Foundation, and other children.

At LRI Design Plaza, an outdoor stage will feaeture live performances by OPM icon Heber Bartolome and his band, Jon Santos as “Armida Siguion-Macareina,” Rox Puno (son of Rico J) and his band, and General Santos City’s Teatro Ambahanon, will spice up the street festival from 4pm onwards, with Pinky Amador as host.

Simultaneously, Alliance Francaise will screen award winning French films for free at its auditorium. And at 6pm, artist Ferdinand Cacnio will open his show of 18 artworks at LRI Pavilion.
