CAMP PANACAN, Davao City, June 27 — The leadership of the 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army here recently conferred the wounded personnel medal to six soldiers who figured in skirmishes with the New People's Army (NPA) rebels over the past weeks in their respective areas of responsibility.
Maj. Gen. Jorge Segovia conferred the awards at their hospital beds in Camp Panacan station hospital to 1Lt. Abelardo D. Silva Jr., Pfc. Rolando B. Balotoc, Pfc. Ellsworh P. Banaga, Pfc. Joselito O. Banigued, all of the 71st Infantry Battalion; Pfc. Alvin M. Parco of the 84th IB and Pvt. Giovanni T. Tabanao of the 66th IB.
Segovia said Silva, Balotoc, Banaga and Banigued were wounded after they encountered 70 NPA members in Sitio Piasusuan, Barangay Napnapan, Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province on June 19.
Earlier on that same day, Tabanao of 66th IB was hurt after an undetermined number of rebels harassed the members of Peace and Development Teams 4 and 6, based at Sitio Handuromug, Barangay Bayabas, Nabunturan, he said.
Segovia said Parco was hit in his left leg after a 45-minute firefight with the rebels on June 7 at the vicinity of Sitio Mariras, Barangay Sibulan, Toril District, Davao City.
He thanked the awardees for showing gallantry in line of duty despite the danger.
