Three Cebu HS students receive award as Rizal models

CEBU CITY, June 27 – Three high school students in Cebu were awarded the Jose P. Rizal Youth Exemplar for their YES (Youth for the Empowerment of Students) program.

Miko Cabatingan of Abellana National High School, Ezekiel Majan of the Cebu City National Science High School and Serge Lorenz Villasica of Mandaue City Science High School vowed to teach elementary students and make sure they don’t lag behind in their subjects.

Each of them will choose 10 elementary students in their schools to tutor and monitor under their YES program.

The students should have the lowest grades in class.

Cabatingan, Majan and Villasica will also recruit 11 “exemplars” each to help them in the tutorials.

The three were chosen from among 12 regional finalists. They will join 32 others chosen from the different regions as the 35 exemplars of the late Dr. Jose Rizal at the National level.

Cabatingan, Majan and Villasaca were awarded last Friday at the first full council meeting of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 held at the Montebello Hotel in Cebu City.

Last June 17, they took their oaths as Rizal Exemplars after a three-day seminar in Manila. (PNA) scs/FFC/EB/re
