Nueva Vizcaya villagers plant over P683,000 worth of seedlings for Arbor Day

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, June 28 – Local officials and residents on Saturday were able to plant more than 683,00 seedlings during the nationwide observance of the Arbor Day covering the 275 barangays of the province.

Sheryl De Torres, local government operations officer VI, said the number of seedlings was the latest report they received from various barangays in the province, which were encouraged to plant the seedlings for the Arbor Day.

The Arbor Day enjoins the participation of all barangays in the country to participate in tree planting activities in their communities to attain the Billion Trees Program in the next five years.

It supports the national government’s National Greening Program(NGP) which is spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) inorder to address the threat of climate change in the country.

“We are optimistic that we can attain the national objective considering the number of seedlings planted in the province already,” De Torres said.

She said the seedlings planted were fruit-bearing and the common G-Melina tree.

The Billion Trees Program encourages municipal and barangay local government units to produce seedlings, identify plating areas in their respective communities, ensure the participation of all sectors of their community and the survivability of the trees planted. (PNA)
