Dumaguete City holds Food Fair 2011

DUMAGUETE CITY, July 27 – The city government of Dumaguete through the City Nutrition Council and the City Agriculture Office kicked off the Food Fair 2011 Wednesday morning at the Quezon park in line with Nutrition Month celebration this year which banners the theme: “Isulong ang Breastfeeding-Tama, Sapat at EKsklusibo (TSEK)”.

City Administrator William Ablong in his welcome message said the city government has lined up different activities thru the City Nutrition Office headed by Lourdes Taburasa for the whole Nutrition Month celebration, including information drives on breastfeeding and the Food Fair.

During the Food Fair, different root crops, products and vegetables coming from 25 out of 30 barangays in the city were showcased in the said activity.

He mentioned that it is important for breastfeeding mothers to have good nutrition by eating nutrient-packed foods especially vegetables.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria for his part said the city government of Dumaguete will continue the programs initiated by the City Nutrition Office to see to it that every individual city gets proper nutrition.

He added the City Agriculture Office has a program for the farmers called Plow Now, Pay Later program to make the city sufficient in food production.

The activity culminated with the awarding ceremony of the winners of the school bulletin board contest, Search for Outstanding Integrated Health and Nutrition Implementor, A-1 student selection, Inter High school Oratorical contest, well-baby contest, quiz bowl and inter-barangay booth contest, according to Lourdes Taburasa, City Nutrition Action Officer.
