ILOILO CITY, July 28 — Over 100 participants including trade visitors, buyers, practitioners and enthusiasts are attending the much-anticipated four-day Food Expo and Conference in Western Visayas (FoodCon 2011) which kicks off in Iloilo City Thursday.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the big gathering is another boost to the citys growing reputation as an ideal convention hub, dining and wellness haven and tourism destination.
The FoodCon, now on its fourth year, is the only event in the region that offers a complete and comprehensive coverage of the food industry, said project chairperson Jeremia Octaviano-Botavara.
We are promoting good food and healthy lifestyle. This will benefit the Ilonggos and develop a healthier Iloilo. The City of Love is where good food, healthy lifestyle and great ideas meet, she stressed.
FoodCon 2011 is absolutely bigger and better. Such a remarkable comeback is owing to the strong support of various government agencies in the food sector as well as private industries in the region, she added.
The event includes products and services exhibition and a fashion show at Amigo Plaza Mall while series of lectures on food industry and wellness are being conducted at Iloilo Midtown Hotel.
Through this one-of-a-kind event, we can further promote the significance of our growing food and wellness industries throughout the region, Botavara said.
She added they have gathered experts from the industry, academe, professionals, business, food and wellness enthusiasts to share best practices, learn new trends, find new products and meet potential suppliers and partners in this years big event.
FoodCon is organized by the School of Technology of University of the Philippines -Visayas and UPV Food Technologist Alumni Association, Inc. while Wellness Expo is spearheaded by JCI Metro Iloilo Dinagyang. (PNA)
