SAN JOSE, Antique, Oct. 26 — Its all systems go for this years Binirayan Festival 2011 set to be held on the last week of December, Antique Governor Exequiel B. Javier said.
Javier said this years Binirayan Festival will be a simple one to be handled exclusively by the Binirayan Foundation, a private group now headed by Provincial Administrator Efren Esclavilla,
The Provincial Government will not be spending for the Binirayan Festival because the Binirayan Foundation has its own funds, Javier said.
The governor said that Esclavilla had already called for a meeting with persons who would be handling the various committees for the festival.
This is the first time after a decade that the Binirayan Festival will be held in December as what its founder former Governor Evelio B. Javier had wanted. <P>Former Governor Salvacion Zaldivar Perez celebrated Binirayan Festival in the last week of April and had made her birthday celebration as part of the festival during her nine years in office.
Binirayan was first held on April 30-May 1, 1974 and had become a yearly event until Javier's assassination on Feb. 11, 1986.
The festival, portrayed in full Malayan costumes, is a theatrical presentation reenacting the landing of "birays" (flotilla of colorful sailboats) during the settlement of the 10 Bornean datus in Barangay Malandog, Hamtic, Antique in 1240. (PNA)
