MANILA, Nov. 29 – As the nation celebrates World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo on Tuesday enjoined all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors and punong barangays nationwide to fully support the celebration through activities that emphasize this years theme, Getting to Zero.
Robredo said this years celebration would highlight a High-Level Plenary Meeting to address the 2011 United Nations Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS, and usher in the Investment Plan for the Fifth AIDS Medium Term Plan.
In a memorandum circular, Robredo urged all local chief executives to spearhead the conduct of activities such as symbolic wearing of red ribbon or any red-colored accessory to mark the occasion; unfurling of WAD streamers or posters in buildings or in public or private conveyances; displaying of red banners or tying of red ribbons on doors of houses or of business establishments; spearheading local marathon or walkathon; and promotion of local AIDS services.
Other activities include disseminating information materials on HIV and AIDS prevention and issuing press releases with emphasis on the LGUs commitment or support to efforts to address HIV. (PNA) RMA/JCA
