Benguet police sustain anti-illegal logging drive; conduct raid in Atok town

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet, Dec. 29 – The Benguet Police Provincial Office has vowed to sustain its anti-illegal logging drive in the province which serves as part of the watershed area for the various rivers in northern Luzon.

Police Senior Superintendent Benjamin Lusad, provincial director of the Benguet PNP command, said that their recent raid against illegal logging was conducted in Caliking, Atok, Benguet.

Police operatives were able to seize illegally cut pine lumber in the area but the suspects were able to flee before the lawmen arrived.

Similar operations were done by the police in the past through the help of the communities and some suspects arrested are now undergoing litigation in the courts.

"We sustain this drive as the forests serve as our source of water for our communities," he said. (PNA)
