ROSALES, Pangasinan, Feb. 25 — Every first Friday and Saturday of the month are waste market days at SM City Rosales here in line with its novel "Trash to Cash" program.
In those days, people from all walks of life bring in their wastes in exchange for some cash from SM Rosales management.
Now going on for the past five years in all SM Supermalls, "Trash to Cash" was launched in support of Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Roselle Gale, SM City Rosales' public relations officer, said "Trash to Cash" uses 3Rs (reduce, re-use, recycle) to promote community awareness and responsibilities to address environmental issues.
Thus, everyone can bring any disposable items, may it be old newspapers, plastic bottles, aluminum and tin cans and worn-out and dilapidated electrical appliances in exchange for cash.
The theme of the activity in 2012 is "Come with Trash, Take Home Cash."
For the month of March, the waste market days at SM City Rosales will be on March 2 and 3.
Gale said that with the program, there is no better way to get rid of one's waste than transform it into cash, thus the theme "Come with Trash, Take Home Cash." (PNA)
