TARLAC CITY, Feb. 26 –Some 7,000 Tarlaquenos joined the "Alay Lakad for a Cause 2012" organized by the city government to commemorate the 26th People Power Revolution.
The activity, which held at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, started simultaneously at the PNR Station in Barangay Matatalaib from North; Maria Cristina Park in front of the Capitol in Barangay San Vicente from West; SM City Tarlac in Barangay San Roque from South and NIA By-Pass Road from East.
Participants included city government employees, students and teachers from the Tarlac State University, Department of Education (DepEd), Philippine National Police (PNP), other government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), senior citizens, women's sector, religious groups and other sectors.
The project aimed to raise funds for the provision, production and propagation of seedlings, post-awareness on the importance of conserving natural resources, to educate Tarlaquenos on the importance of tree-planting and to encourage the people to plant in their own backyard.
The event was conceptualized pursuant to the Executive Order no. 26 of President Benigno Aquino III known as "National Greening Program."
The "Walk- for- a- Cause" project was inspired with the slogan "Tuloy Sigla sa Kalinisan, Lingap sa Kalikasan."
After the walk, the participants converged at the Ninoy Aquino Plaza for a short program and a ceremonial tree planting.
City Mayor Ace Manalang led the release of doves and yellow balloon as part of the celebration of the 26th People Power Revolution, remembering the province's heroes, the late couple Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and President Cory Aquino.(PNA) RMA/zst/EG/ps
