STA. CRUZ, Laguna, Feb. 27 - Officials of the Provincial Government here over the weekend undertook several important activities, capped by its hosting of Calabarzons Multi-Sectoral Forest Protection Conference at the Capitols Hall on Sunday.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), the conference is an event held first quarter of every year, to discuss actions of each agency involved in tree planting activities, forest policies, illegal logging, and other forest concerns, officials said..
Provincial Administrator Leonardo M. Ragaza Jr., who represented Governor Jeorge E.R. Ejercito Estregan, encouraged all the participants to help protect and revive Lagunas worsening environment condition.
Ragaza also delved on the actions taken by the provincial government in protecting Lagunas forest and the environment.
A total of 49 representatives from various concerned agencies in Region 4A, such as from the DENR, Department of Science and Technology, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Justice, Department of Labor and Employment, University of the Philippines Los Baños, and PG-ENROs and City and Municipal ENROs of CALABARZON, participated in the confab.

On February 25, the provincial government conducted a medical and dental mission in Binan City where some 260 patients were treated and given medicines by several attending physicians.
Ragaza said, of the number, 32 underwent Pap smear, 20 took Urinalysis, 85 had blood sugar tests (Fasting Blood Sugar and Random Blood Sugar), and 122 underwent dental examinations. At least 697 patients were given medicines, he said.
Governor Jeorge E.R. Ejercito Estregans Medical and Dental Mission Team was headed by Laguna Chest Center Chief Dr. Ramon B. Carlos, who is putting much effort to reach all 674 barangays in the province to extend medical services offered by hospitals to those in need, Ragaza said.
He said the medical and dental mission was made possible thru the participation of the Office of the Governor, Office of the Provincial Administrator, Erap Action Team, Provincial Health Office Dental Team, Provincial Population Office-Clinical Services, Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial District Hospital, San Pedro Municipal Hospital, and General Cailles Memorial District Hospital.
Earlier, 300 cooperative members in Laguna through the provincial cooperative development office (PCDO), participated in the National Show of Cooperative Force in celebration of International Year of Cooperatives held at the Quezon City Circle last February 18.
Themed, Cooperatives: A Celebration of People Empowerment and Strength of Human Spirit, the Cooperative Show was participated in by some 50,000 cooperative members nationwide.
The Laguna PCDO delegation was headed by Senior Cooperative Development Specialist Edwin S. Bautista, was supported by Gov. Estregan who provided buses that transported them from Laguna to Quezon City and vice versa.
