LEGAZPI CITY, March 29 — Bishop Manolo de los Santos of the Diocese of Virac was injured in a vehicular accident on Wednesday when his car he was driving hit an electrical post in Barangay Palta Small in Virac town, an official of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Catanduanes said Thursday.
The accident happened at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday while the Bishop was negotiating a downhill curve road along the Culahaw Farm in said village when he lost control of his car when he crossed path with a passenger bus, according to Edna Bagadiong, PIA provincial director.
Bishop de los Santos was on his way back to Virac town from San Andres town while the passenger bus was on its way to San Andres town from Virac town.
Bagadiong said Bishop De los Santos, 63, was rushed to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center (EBMC) for treatment.
Attending physician said the bishop suffered a broken palate due to the impact when his white Kia car bumped an electrical post.
Bagadiong quoting attending doctors said the bishop is presently in stable condition, but he has to be airlifted on Friday to Manila and be brought to hospital since according to attending doctors EBMC has no available steel plate for implantation to his fractured palate. (PNA)
