1,000 people participate in PAF's blood-letting drive

MANILA, April 30 — Around 1,000 people participated in the Philippine Air Force's blood-letting campaign which was conducted at the PAF Gymnasium in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City Monday morning.

Lt. Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol, PAF spokesperson, said the blood donation will be turned over to the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center for use by the cancer patients undergoing treatment there.

"It is an annual activity which forms part of our build- up activities leading to the 65th founding anniversary of the PAF which happens in July,” Okol said of the blood-letting drive. Each of the participants donated 500 milliliters of whole blood.

The activity was organized in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Pasay City Chapter.

“As we reach our 65th year of existence, this blood- letting activity is just the start of bigger happenings to come leading to the anniversary celebration — like the Air Power Symposium on June 22, various sports and outreach activities and the anniversary celebration on July 2 at Fernando Air Base in Lipa City that will help highlight PAF’s relevance and importance to the general public and to publicize PAF commanding officer Lt. Gen. Lauro Catalino Dela Cruz’s command guidance,” Okol said.

He added that this act of mercy and charity is the PAF’s way of showing to the people that the country’s air defense wing –- among its various functions -– also has time to care for the less fortunate. (PNA)
