The city tourism officer clarified that P200,000 allocation only shoulder the fare and accommodation of the artists, unlike in previous years when the same amount was allotted for two or three screen and television personalities only.
Maquiling maintained that the P200,000 amount is so small compared to the media mileage and promotion the city will get in bringing the artists of a national TV network.
A Santacruzan kayak festival is scheduled the following day at the seashore near the Rizal Boulevard to be participated in by fishermen.
Also this year, Santacruzan festival of lights was introduced with the theme Suga sa Panaghiusa, wherein 700 fire lanterns are set up along the whole stretch of the Rizal boulevard.
Maquiling said the 700 fire lanterns are sponsored by businessmen while putting up stalls in the area along with the tune of different drum beaters of Dumaguete. The festival of lights was conceptualized by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria to emphasized unity in addressing challenging times ahead, he said. (PNA) RMA/jfp/Juancho Gallarde
