Vietnamese leaders meet with Austrian president in Hanoi

HANOI, May 29 — General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met with Austrian President Heinz Fischer here separately on Tuesday during the latter's visit to Vietnam.

Trong spoke highly of Fischer's official visit to Vietnam, saying it is an important political event in the traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two countries, particularly when it took place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Austria and Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Party leader informed his guest of Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, development and proactive international integration adopted at the 11th National Party Congress.

Austria and its people highly value Vietnam's role and position in the region and the world, said the Austrian president, adding that he is impressed by the great achievements the Vietnamese people have recorded in the modernization process under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Fischer expressed his wish to consolidate and further develop the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Also on Tuesday, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met with Fischer, during which both sides agreed to promote bilateral ties. (PNA/Xinhua)
