MANILA, June 29 – Three police officers were slightly injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) hit their patrol car while about to serve a warrant for illegal fishing violations in Kitcharao, Agusan Del Norte Friday morning.
SPO1 Dioscoro Casino, an investigator of the Jabonga police station, said the incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Purok 1, Sitio Sogod, Barangay San Roque, Kitcharao.
Wounded in the incident were Insp. Ernesto Telano, the police chief of Jabonga town and PO1s Rio Adorable and Junrel Gozon. All three sustained slight wounds caused by shrapnel.
Uninjured was PO1 Ronnie Llagas.
Casino said all four were aboard a Toyota Hilux patrol vehicle and proceeding to the settlement near Lake Mainit, also in Kitcharao when an IED suddenly exploded near the right side of their vehicle, peppering the victims with shrapnel.
Casino after the explosion, said unidentified armed men, appeared out of nowhere, and fired on the group.
But Telano and his men, despite the shock of the explosion, managed to return fire, and managed to escape.
Casino said they were still investigating the incident to determine the motives of the attacker and to identity if the latter group are members of the New People's Army. (PNA)
