BAGUIO CITY, July 12 – Various ethnic groups are set to join the celebration on Sunday here to mark the 25th year anniversary of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and again offer gratitude to the late President Corazon C. Aquino.
The late president lovingly called by residents here as "President Cory" issued on July 15, 1987 Executive Order No. 220 in order to create the CAR composed of the city of Baguio and the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Apayao and Ifugao.
City administrator Carlos Canilao said that aside from the traditional civic parade, there will be cultural presentations which would showcase the rich culture of the region.
The CAR was formed in abeyance to the establishment of an autonomous region in this part of the country in consonance to a provision of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
Leaders here hailed the move to establish an administrative region here which paved the way for more development in an area formerly designated in the Philippines map as the old Mountain Province.
"We are happy to host the big event. We are proud to be among the components of an administrative region which can now be said to have gained much economic and other developments after 25 years," said Canilao. (PNA)
