MANILA, July 11 — AN official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is certain that the Supreme Court (SC) will affirm its earlier decision regarding the purchase of the more than 80,000 Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines.
Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento is convinced that the High Court will not change its earlier ruling.
“The vote was 11-3, I don’t think the SC will change its decision and it was not a close fight,” he said.
Sarmiento’s statement was in reaction on the appeal filed by the petitioner, Automated Elections System Watch (AESW) before the SC.
However, Sarmiento admitted that he has yet to see or read a copy of the motion.
On the other hand, he said that the preparation for the 2013 mid-term elections is in full blast.
On Tuesday, the High Tribunal gave the Comelec and Smartmatic 10 days to comment on the appeal of the AESW on the former’s option to purchase the machines. (PNA)
