8 towns in Pangasinan under tight watch for illegal logging

DAGUPAN CITY, Aug. 30 — Eight towns in Pangasinan led by Mangatarem are under tight watch for illegal logging, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) said.

Pangasinan Forester Rose Orduña tagged the town of Mangatarem as the center of operation of the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force due to several past incidences of illegal logging in the area.

But the task force, in the provincial and regional levels, has also strengthened its watch in other mountainous areas of Pangasinan where small-scale logging activities are taking place.

These towns are San Nicolas, San Quintin and Umingan in eastern Pangasinan; and Sual , Labrador, Infanta, Dasol and Mabini in Western Pangasinan.

Mangatarem is located in the central part of Pangasinan.

The provincial anti-illegal logging task force is headed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resou4rces Officer Leduina Co while the regional anti-illegal logging task force is headed by DENR Executive Director Samuel Peñafiel.

Orduña said that in the latest meeting of the task force, it reviewed and strengthened its current action plan so that it can really curve illegal logging activities in Pangasinan.

She said the task force is still in the process of gathering evidence against suspected illegal loggers and once all these are in, they will go to court. (PNA)
