MANILA, Nov. 30 — Units from the Navy's Naval Forces West, assisted by local government units in Palawan, rescued 123 sea turtles trapped in three submerged cages off Barangay Caguisan, Balabac, Palawan last Nov. 27.
Belated reports from Col. Omar Tonsay, PN spokesperson, said six of the 123 rescued sea turtles died, leaving 117 of the endangered animals alive in government custody.
The PN spokesperson said animals were found trapped inside three large submerged mangrove cages of Balabac.
All the turtles were eventually turned over to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Palawan for care and documentations.
The reptiles were eventually released to the sea last Nov. 29, off Roughton Island. (PNA)
