U.S. Marine arrested for drunk driving in Okinawa

NAHA, Japan, Dec. 30 — Police said they arrested a U.S. Marine on Saturday for drunk driving and colliding with a motorcycle in the capital city of Naha in Japan's southernmost prefecture.

Lance Cpl. Eric Lopez, 24, who is stationed at Camp Kinser, a major logistics base for the U.S. Marine Corps in the city of Urasoe in Okinawa Prefecture, allegedly drove a car the wrong way down a one-way street while under influence of alcohol and crashed into a 54-year-old man on a motorcycle at around 5:25 p.m. Saturday.

Police officers detected alcohol on Lopez's breath but said he remained silent under questioning, adding the man on the motorcycle sustained no external injuries but was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. (PNA/Kyodo)
