'Albay Magayon Festival' now called 'Daragang Magayon Festival'

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb 08 — The Provincial Government of Albay announced on Thursday the use of “Daragang Magayon Festival 2013" instead of "Magayon Festival 2013” for its grand event celebrated yearly.

The ethno-cultural logic of the festival that Albay is celebrating is that it deals with the iconic endowment of Mayon Volcano whose name originated from "Daragang Magayon" and whose story is "The Epic of Daragang Magayon sa Sayaw kan Tolong Bulod (Lovely Lady in the Dance of Three Mountains)."

Albay Governor Joey Salceda said they started last year with the dance-musicale and the legends showdown under this logic and “our epiphany to the rest of the world is the staging of the Daragang Magayon: An Istorya ni Mayon in the CCP Main Theater today."

Thus, the popular beauty pageant name Mutya ng Magayon Festival 2013 will become "Daragang Magayon 2013."

Her court will include "Daragang Alinao", "Daragang Masaraga" and the newly created title "Ms. Almasor Tourism" whose contestants must be from the provinces of Albay, Masbate and Sorsogon.

The term Almasor is coined from the names of these three provinces which has been formed as the southern cluster of tourism areas of Bicol.

The northern cluster is the Catanduanes-Camarines Norte-Camarines Sur group.

At the same time, the Ginoo ng Magayon Festival 2013 will now be renamed "Ang Ginoo ni Daragang Magayon."

Another will be "Ginoong Almasor Tourism" whose winner will represent the Almansor cluster in tourism promotion. (PNA)
