MALOLOS, Bulacan, April 28 — An estimated 1,500 cyclists joined together on Sunday to promote honest, orderly and peaceful elections (HOPE) through the 7th Takbulacan fun biking event.
Takbulacan is organized by SALIKA Foundation, Inc. which intends to promote camaraderie among Bulakeños through volunteerism, charity and unity. This also serves as an information campaign to support secure and fair elections.
Meanwhile, different cyclist groups from Luzon participated in the event which started at 5 in the morning.
According to Wilfredo Barroquillo Jr. of SALIKA Foundation, they did not expect the turnout of participants. He said that there were more participants this quarter and most of them were not able to have a cycling jersey because it was already out of stock.
The fun biking event started from two staging points; from Marcelo H. Del Pilar Shrine in Bulakan, Bulacan and the other is from the Grotto Vista Resort in San Jose del Monte City.
All cyclists have completed the route by 9 a.m. and met in the end point at Bulacan Sports Complex, Sta. Isabel, Malolos, Bulacan.
Celso Pangan, a 78-year-old cyclist, was awarded for being the oldest biking enthusiast in the league.
Through the help of Philippine National Police (PNP), the event has successfully achieved its goal and has secured the safety and protection of every biker.
Funds collected from the event will go to SALIKA Foundations program such as scholarship, medical mission and livelihood projects. (PNA) JBP/RME,AOB(OJT)
