TACLOBAN CITY, May 31 — The Department of AgricultureRegional field Unit 8 (DA-RFU 8) honored three institutional winners and several individual winners of its Gawad Saka Award search, capping the three-day celebration of the Farmers and Fisherfolks Month here Wednesday.
This years individual awardees for the regional "Gawad Saka" included Arturo D. Pasacas as outstanding farmer on rice-based integrated farming system; Eleuterio C. Indic for high value crop; Aljarico Mariscal as outstanding young farmer; Avelina C. Palomado for outstanding rural improvement club (RIC), Francisco T. Dayap as outstanding researcher and Dr. Erlinda A. Vasquez as outstanding scientist.
Special citations were also given to Allan C. Ladipe for rice-based integrating farming system; Dr. Annabela Tulin for outstanding scientist; Patricio Andaza for small animal raiser; Troy Bumagat for agri-entrepreneur; Mansueto Antida for organic agriculture farmer; Amelita Aragon for high value crop and Ana Lebite for RIC.
Institutional winners on the other hand include the Holy Child Multi-purpose cooperative of Bato, Leyte as outstanding small farmers and fisherfolks organization; Baybay City Agricultural and Fishery Council as outstanding agri- fishery council for the city category and the Ormoc City City Agricultural and Fishery Council for the provincial/independent and highly urbanized city (HUC) category.
The Villa Conzoilo Community Association was also awarded a special citation for small farmers and fisherfolks organization.
Institutional winners received P50,000 each; P30,000 for individual awardees and P10,000 for special citations.
Awardees have been chosen for having showcased best practices that could further the agriculture and fishery sector in the region.
The regional winners will represent the region to the national Gawad Saka the highest award recognition extended by the Agriculture department to farmers and organizations with excellent accomplishments in their respective areas of interest. (PNA)
